The Secret Garden was originally part of the garden of Winton House, formerly the Manse. Chickens roamed free in it. After the building of Osborne Court sheltered housing complex in the 1980s, it was enclosed and neglected behind a locked door. Members of ‘Cockenzie and Port Seton in Bloom’ spent 18 months trying to locate the key. Eventually, they gained access and immediately recognised the potential of the space. With the help of the BBC’s ‘Beechgrove Garden’ team, this delightful garden was created by the community for the community in 2002.

The beautiful walls are the work of a local stonemason. Plants have been carefully chosen to attract wildlife. The border on your right, as you go up the ramp, is filled with sensory plants. Behind the wall, just above the picnic table, is the ‘Time Line’- plants to flower successively from February to November.
